Quality Still Important Amid Predicted Decline in IT Spending
Market Research Shows Quality IT Service as Big Concern
Minneapolis, Minn., July 16, 2009—In January, Forrester Research predicted a 3 percent decline in global IT spending, totaling $1.66 trillion worldwide. However, recent survey research on the importance of information technology services to business suggests this decline in spending may have more to do with a search for improved service quality than a move away from IT spending altogether. The survey, administered via telephone to more than 250 businesses over April and May 2009 and sponsored by PC Solutions, may provide a more complete look into the minds of business executives throughout the state of Minnesota.
Of the businesses surveyed, 61 percent said quality was more important than price when selecting IT vendors, almost equaling the importance of quality accounting, healthcare and legal services, all critical pieces of a business. The survey also found that the importance of IT service quality is significantly higher than marketing and building maintenance services, areas where companies have spent significantly in the past. This consensus on quality IT solutions over expense carries even more weight given Forrester’s predicted decline in purchases of additional computers, servers and other hardware, a move that will account for more than $17 billion in losses for suppliers.
“If world businesses cut back on software and hardware purchases, the quality of a company’s IT service will be more important than ever,” said PC Solutions President, Mark Berndt. “Even in the face of cutbacks, companies need to function efficiently and effectively, making service the area most prime for an upgrade.”
